First Fundraiser A Success
There was nothing sleepy about downtown Glen Ellyn last March 6 as African music, singing and laughter poured from the doorway of Mykha's Restaurant on Sunday night. Turned from a small, intimate bistro into a mini gala with silent auction, buffet meal, photos of Africa and the tales of lives saved by caring people, the night was a joy.
The program began with a reminder that we were not there simply to provide money, but as it says in II Corinthians 9:12 "This service that you perform is not only supplying the needs of God's people but is also overflowing in many expressions of thanks to God." Everyone present was, in effect, God's answer to the prayers of hundreds of children and families in Uganda. Matt and Crystal Kehn, married only one week, touched the audience with their story of time spent in Uganda and of their plans to join Juna Amagara in fulltime ministry there in 2006. "These are our children- yours and mine," Matt said. "Crystal and I want to do what we can to help raise them up in the Way of the Lord."
Commitments from people continue to arrive, but substantial donations were received for buildings, a second children's home, child sponsorship, missionary support and operating expenses. The needs are great, as you can see on the Donations page of our website, but we know God will continue to provide for them.
